Objective: The purpose of this study is to systematically review and comprehensively analyze the components of sustainable design and management in sports venues, with an emphasis on technical, architectural, safety, maintenance, and operational dimensions.
Methodology: This qualitative research employed a systematic review based on the PRISMA framework. The statistical population included all scientific sources (books, articles, policy reports, and international standards) published between 2019 and 2025. After searching domestic and international databases and screening, 187 sources were selected for final analysis. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis with MAXQDA software.
Findings: The research model was classified into 6 overarching themes and 30 organizing themes: Sustainable design and energy optimization (thermal insulation, low-energy lighting, renewable energies, Building Management Systems); 2) Resource and waste management (water optimization, recycling systems, sustainable materials, waste management); 3) Safety, security, and risk management (safety standards, fire suppression systems, crowd management, emergency response plans); 4) Maintenance, renovation, and retrofitting (preventive maintenance, sustainable renovation, seismic retrofitting, life cycle management); 5) Smart management and emerging technologies (IoT, AI, access control systems, facial recognition); 6) Accessibility, inclusivity, and social responsibility (universal design, ADA standards, attention to specific groups, social participation).
Conclusion: Sustainable management of sports facilities requires an integrated, multidimensional approach that simultaneously addresses technical, environmental, social, and economic dimensions. Transitioning from traditional models to sustainable management necessitates strategic planning, investment in new technologies, human capital development, and revision of institutional policies.
